Despite “we shouldn’t do anything because we can’t stop every gun massacre” being an incredibly stupid argument, it’s still a go to argument. As if not being able to stop everything is a reason to do nothing at all. Or that “the only ones with guns will be the bad guys”. Or some other claptrap.
But I digress. Because the most disingenuous part of this argument is the ease of flipping it to anything else—and things that not only make way more sense but things that would make these same people apoplectic.
There will always be abortions so why pass laws to severely limit them?
There will always be consenting adults who love someone of the same sex, so why pass laws to restrict their rights?
There will always be people who come to the US without proper documentation for a better life so why pass laws to break up families and deport people who aren’t doing anything wrong?
There will always be people who believe in science and medicine, so why pass laws to overrule scientific fact?
See how easy it is? And I’m sure there are dozens of other ways to turn this around too.
